Google has created an experimental search page to allow people to try some of its ideas for making results more user-friendly.

It first began showcasing alternative views last May but has now added some further ways of browsing results.

Andrew Hogue, described as an uber tech lead, revealed the new views through the Google blog.

He said there has been little change to the way information is presented through the portal “but for some searches you need more options and more control”.

One of these is Map View – which plots some of the locations searched for on to a map. Google hopes this will help people visualize their results more clearly.

In addition, it has created Timeline View, which showcases historic and future dates arising from the search on a graph at the top of the page.

Another new layout is Google’s Info View, which arranges results in a similar way to the current standard but offers users an additional control panel which allows them to navigate through further information such as images.

Commenting on the development, Arnold Zafra, a correspondent at the Search Engine Journal, said the move was a sign Google recognizes it must provide more than just relevant results.
