She’s quick and clever on the keyboard and she’s constantly enlightening her teammates with countless cultural references and her quirky sense of humor. She’s known around the office as “the girl who can pull off bright red lipstick,” “the one you want to have on your trivia team” and the “Queen of Gifs.”
We’re talking about Julia Troy, Brafton’s video content associate.
Flash back to 2011, and Julia Troy was just starting her career in editorial. Finding a job centered on her writing passion was Julia’s main priority, and Brafton presented the perfect opportunity as a news and content writer. But once she hit a stride in writing, interviewing and editing copy for her lifestyle and health-industry clients, she wanted to try working on more varied web media. At the same time, Brafton’s video department was gaining momentum. When a position opened for a video script writer, Julia knew the switch was right up her alley.
As Brafton’s Video Content Associate, Julia is still flexing her writing muscles, developing scripts and content for the video team. The position offers variety that she loves: She not only writes, but also assists in the entire video process.
“I love working with the people at Brafton, and I enjoy getting to work with our clients,” Julia said. “Making the move to video allowed me the opportunity to collaborate more with my teammates, since I wouldn’t just be writing, but also helping to set up shoots and direct presenters.”

Q: As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A racecar driver. Anyone who has ever been in a car with me driving is very grateful that never happened.
Q: What do you think is the most important quality needed for success?
I think the ability to take criticism is important. If you assume that you’re always right and anyone who says otherwise must be an idiot, you’re not going to get very far. That being said, there are certainly a lot of idiots out there, so you also have to be careful about whose opinion you trust, so I guess being open is the key.
Q: What do you value most in a job?
Probably variety. One of the reasons I wanted to move to video is that you work with a broad range of clients. On editorial I was writing only for the health vertical, but on the video team, we work with clients across a lot of different industries, which I enjoy because I get a chance to learn about different subjects.
Q: What is your most treasured possession?
I have a ring that my mom gave me that I love. The other day, it fell down the sink drain, and I actually took the sink apart and looked through the pipe until I found it. The sink will probably never work properly again, but I have my ring, so I’m gonna file that one in the “win” category.
Q: What personality trait are you always trying to improve?
I tend to get distracted easily. I’d elaborate but there’s some really interesting stuff on TV right now…
Q: Which day of the work week are you the most productive?
Probably Monday. Things tend to build up over the course of the week so Monday tends to be the least overwhelming day.
Q: What do you consider your greatest achievement?
I once spilled a drink on Ryan Reynolds. I feel like that speaks for itself.
Q: Have any “hidden talents” ?
I can sing pretty well, but that’s not really hidden since most people I know have been forced to put up with my singing whether they want to or not.
Q: If Brafton were a TV show, which character – from any sitcom, drama or reality show (of any time period) – would represent you?
I’m going to have to go with Lamb Chop on this one. I think the Wikipedia entry for Lamb Chop can explain better than I can.

That last part pretty much sums it all up for me. Always trying to cheer up Paul McCartney.
