We love when clients tell us that they found us through a Google search — especially when those clients are interested in acquiring new customers through the same means.
It reinforces our brand’s belief in the power of SEO, and it gets things off on the right foot with prospective clients. After all, if we can do this for ourselves, we can do it for them.
And that very much proved to be the case for our client, Rosterfy.
The Challenge: Organic Growth
Rosterfy, an Australia-based company that helps organizations manage and mobilize teams of volunteers, found us through a Google search.
They were on the prowl for a content marketing agency that could help them increase their overall organic traffic.
- More brand awareness through an improved presence on search.
- More referring domains.
- Increased traffic.
The Solution: SEO
Great SEO is a bit like gardening. You do the hardest work up front.
And that starts with keyword research. For Rosterfy, most of our research was centered around informational-intent terms that we can target through their blog. These “how to”-type keywords are valuable for boosting brand awareness and credibility.
When we choose keywords, we’re trying to figure out how much traffic can be won from earning a specific position on Page 1. We look at estimated monthly search volume to start (that shows how many people are typing this keyword into Google each month). We also estimate where on the SERP we expect to rank based on the competition’s backlink profile and Domain Authority relative to the client’s.
Once we’ve identified an ideal keyword, we:
- Analyze the SERP (in depth) for that chosen keyword.
- Use TF-IDF tools to understand the topic coverage necessary for that term.
- Compile all of our data into a brief.
- Write a piece of content with the highest possible likelihood of ranking on Page 1.
- Publishing that post.
For Rosterfy, we did this process, again and again. Although most of this was centered around informational keywords, we also created commercial landing pages using the same process.
The Outcome: Mission Accomplished
- 407% increase in monthly traffic value.
- 22,000 additional monthly blog sessions, a 464% increase.
- 233 new referring domains (from 59 to 292).
- 10+ new Page 1 rankings.
Like gardening, SEO is not immediate — and not everything will bear fruit.
It takes up to 100 days for a new page to “settle” into its position.
In Rosterfy’s case, we saw modest gains for the blog upfront:
That’s a 25% increase in traffic over the first few months, and a 19% boost in traffic value.
Not bad. But again, the full effects of content for SEO can only fully be understood when viewed over a long period of sustained effort:
This sustained growth is occurring because we’ve earned Page 1 ranking after Page 1 ranking, and in multiple markets no less (after all, Rosterfy has a presence in the US, Australia and the UK). Here’s an example of a blog post we wrote that captured the feature snippet:
As of November 2023, we had also successfully gotten Rosterfy on Page 1 for the important commercial keyword, “volunteer onboarding software.”
If we had to sum this all up in a “moral of the story”-type lesson, it would be this: Nothing about SEO is immediate, but those who play the long game stand to win big.
