Ebby Amirebrahimi, a Google software engineer, reported on his Google+ account that users can now lock posts prior to sharing to ensure connections in their Circles don’t share the information elsewhere.
While businesses are still waiting for Google+ for Business to launch in the platform can be implemented into social media marketing campaigns, the aggressive steps Google has taken to improve its service have helped it boost Google+’s appeal. Locked posts and other features could create more consumer demand for Google+ to make it a more viable marketing tool, and the updates lend credence to executives’ claims that Google+ for Business delays are due to the company’s “perfection” of the platform.
According to Amirebrahimi, Google+ users have always been able to use these settings. However, the adjustment allows people to lock posts before they actually share the content.
In spite of promising social updates and the company’s dominance of search, email and mobile markets, Google+ has struggled to establish itself as a leader in social media. However, Brafton reported last month that lifting the invite-only status has helped the network improve traffic after losing most of it over the summer after the initial fervor died down.
