AI search meteored into the marketing industry like a brightly burning beacon of change. SEO strategies are old news; bold, new generative engine optimization strategies are the hot thing now; at least, that’s how the average LinkedIn newsfeed told the story.

Our survey of 142 marketing professionals uncovered a different reality. While we’re all concerned about the impact AI search may have on our marketing and business activities, the transition to GEO seems to be a slow process that’s only just beginning.

We asked marketers which activities they’re changing and how; whether dedicated GEO budget and educational or training opportunities factored into their plans; about their biggest barriers and concerns related to AI search; and more. Their answers demonstrate that the adoption of AI search and LLM optimization has so far been an uneven one, with some marketers racing ahead and others holding back to see how things develop.
